Valentines Day Party February 13, 2010

Valentine's Day Party
By: Mr. Leonard Lazarte

The Filipino-American Association of Central Texas celebrated Valentine's Day on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Fort Hood Catering and Conference Center at Fort Hood. It was a memorable evening to remember most especially to all the sweethearts and the young at heart couples who were present at the venue. There were no tickets sold at the door since they were all sold out a month before the occasion. The place was packed and the decorations were superb and fantastic. Philippine delicacies such as pansit and lechon kawali  were served in addition to the catered main menu. The Masters of Ceremony were Mr. Onie Medrano and Mrs. Edith Natividad. The program started with the welcome address of our indefatigable or ever tireless president, Mrs. Gloria Lopez. There were 12 contestants vying for the 2010 Mrs. Valentine. All the candidates were called to the center stage like real fashion show models and returned to their respective places thereafter. The judges for the Mrs. Valentine 2010 were experts on their particular professions. They were meticulous at their best in selecting the winner. There were also other performances presented like the Fil-Am dancers choreographed by Mrs. Helen Cayetano; the Salsa dance by Ms. Violeta Bussell and Stefan Easter; vocal rendition by Mrs. Jing Franklin and the Tango dance by Ely and Janette Mallari of Austin, Texas. A special dance was performed by Stefan and Diana Easter. It was a difficult task for the judges to select the winner but at the end, their consensus was solid. The Mrs. Valentine winner was Mrs. Edith Natividad escorted by her son-in-law since Philip, her husband is in Iraq. Deputy Sheriff (retired) and Mrs. Wayne Williams presented the sash and flowers, while Mr. and Mrs. Felix Carandang presented the prize award. The culmination of the program was the "cha cha" dance contest participated by half dozen pairs of dancers. The judges for the dance contest were all experts on their field of endeavor. The winners for first place were Victor and Famie Guillermo; second place, Ray and Josie Rimando; and third place, Ray and Jayne Morillo of Austin.
Everybody danced the night away and again this is one of the most unforgettable nights to remember..
